Last days of freedom

Our last hurrah before the first day of school.
Lunch with April and Walt:

We asked the kids how they wanted to spend their last day of freedom, and they picked the Railway Village and mini golf.

Union Fair

We had an awesome day at the Union Fair!  The kids are almost disinterested in the animals and tractors now, spending significantly less time exploring the exhibits before we hit the amusement rides for hours. :)

We ALL experienced our first derby!  It was hysterically funny. :)

Remembering Great Grandma

We got the sad news that Great Grandma had passed away early Tuesday morning, so we packed up and left for NC to be there for the funeral.  Elsie Logan was a sweet, saintly woman who worked tirelessly to care for her family.  She loved to sew and eat sweets and could out cook Paula Deen.  Great Grandma didn't have a lot to say if there were bigger personalities in the room, but one on one she was charming and humorous and had lots to say about her life experiences and family.  We always joked with her about the spring that she came to visit us in Maine and we held her hostage for seven weeks!  Logan hated to let her go.  Here are some of our favorite pictures of her from recent years:

Here are some pictures from the crowded viewing (Josiah confiscated my phone and took several of these):

And at the funeral at Mill Swamp Baptist Church in VA:

Logan delivered a beautiful eulogy.

The trip was exhausting for the kids and it caught up to them at the funeral:

The funeral procession drove by the Logan's home place:

It was a hot day for the burial, at 102 degrees.

Everything was really nice.  We all went to Anita's house to change and rest for a little while after the funeral, then came back to the grave one last time before going back to NC for the night.

Daddy time

Logan spends lots of one-on-one time with the kids over the summer when I am my busiest.  They have been spending lots of time on the water and doing other fun things:

The kids had a great week attending VBS at Boothbay Baptist and put on a great show:

And it's football season again!

Logan spoke at a fireside chat hosted by Eric and Kathleen Funderburk and the North Harbor Missions Care Team:
