Remembering Great Grandma

We got the sad news that Great Grandma had passed away early Tuesday morning, so we packed up and left for NC to be there for the funeral.  Elsie Logan was a sweet, saintly woman who worked tirelessly to care for her family.  She loved to sew and eat sweets and could out cook Paula Deen.  Great Grandma didn't have a lot to say if there were bigger personalities in the room, but one on one she was charming and humorous and had lots to say about her life experiences and family.  We always joked with her about the spring that she came to visit us in Maine and we held her hostage for seven weeks!  Logan hated to let her go.  Here are some of our favorite pictures of her from recent years:

Here are some pictures from the crowded viewing (Josiah confiscated my phone and took several of these):

And at the funeral at Mill Swamp Baptist Church in VA:

Logan delivered a beautiful eulogy.

The trip was exhausting for the kids and it caught up to them at the funeral:

The funeral procession drove by the Logan's home place:

It was a hot day for the burial, at 102 degrees.

Everything was really nice.  We all went to Anita's house to change and rest for a little while after the funeral, then came back to the grave one last time before going back to NC for the night.

In Memoriam: Ruth Mary McNutt

My Nana passed away Sunday, April 3rd, just a month shy of her 92nd birthday.  Here are some of my favorite pictures of the original Ruth McNutt:

And here we are at the funeral in Lowell, MA at the Nazarene church Nana attended.  Everything was beautiful.  Dad had asked me to sing and I had practiced "God be with you til we meet again" and was ready to go, but they had me come up right after the eulogies and my little cousin Maddie got me all choked up, so I basically stood up to cry for a few minutes while Logan played the piano.

We sat with Uncle Jim and Aunt Linda at the reception.

Celebrating the life of Emily Logan (Aunt Emily)

We were so shocked to get the call early Monday morning that Logan's Aunt Emily had passed away.  She had fallen again and was in the nursing home recovering.  It looked like she was going to be wheelchair bound for the rest of her life, but she got up in the night to use the restroom without her walker and fell and was in critical condition.  She died in the early hours of the morning.  We made the trip down on Tuesday, slept over at mom's in PA and made it the funeral home in VA on Wednesday for the family viewing.  The funeral was Thursday and we left at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, so it was a whirlwind trip.

After the funeral, the family went over to Anita's house for some hot chocolate and brownies before heading back to NC.

Here are some pictures of Emily from the past few years:

Rest in peace, Aunt Emily!  We'll see you again soon. <3 p="">
