Papa as a young boy, and his sister Emily (1934?)

We got news Saturday, Sept. 20 that Logan's grandfather, E.T. Logan Jr., had passed away after battling cancer for a little over a year. We drove down Sunday and spent the week with the family. The visitation was Monday evening at the funeral home (over 250 people came to pay their respects and offer comfort to the family), and the funeral was Tuesday, Sept. 22nd, at Mill Swamp Baptist Church in Virginia. Papa planned his funeral, and everyone said it was beautiful. Enough good things could not be said about this great man. He was eager to lend a hand to anyone in need, always gracious and kind, always pleasant and good natured. He wanted Logan, his only grandson, to preach at his funeral, so Logan delivered the hardest sermon in his life, I think. I was so proud of Logan! He preached on Ecclesiastes 3, Papa's favorite passage, talking about God's perfect timing in all seasons of our life, and the purpose He has for those seasons. The entire week was exhausting and emotional, but it was so good to be with the family and to remember Papa.
