Josiah's 8th Birthday

Finally, the day Josiah had been planning for months had arrived!  He was 8 years old!
He had requested pancakes, bacon and sausage for breakfast.  I told him to grab a candle and he grabbed 8. :)

Josiah jumped at the opportunity to ride to the dump with Logan - with NO MORE BOOSTER!  They ccame back with a package from NC that also had Valentines goodies for all of them.
SO EXCITING!!!

When it was party time, he had just the right number of friends over so that it felt big but wasn't crazy.  With all the toys downstairs, the kids spent the first hour down there playing and prepping for their battle against Darth Vader, who Josiah thinks Papa knows somehow. :)

When Papa texted that he was on his way, we got everyone outside to prepare for battle.

Landon, Christian, Josiah, Benji, Levi, Eben and Zaid

They were quite comical to watch as they waited and strategized!

Zaid was carrying around the Dorito bowl!

Zaid, Josiah, Christian, Eben, Ben, Landon and Levi, prepared for battle!

He's here!  Charge!

I think the entire battle lasted three minutes, which feels really long when you're watching someone so outnumbered (thought not over-powered!) taking lots of cheap shots!!!  These kids were VERY into this!

Darth Vader started to throw kids into the snow bank, which seemed to work better than anything else. :)

The victorious Rebel Fighters return to celebrate the defeat of Darth Vader!

Josiah and others took turns giving speeches commemorating their victory.

And the birthday boy blew out his candles.

Don't know how to flip this! :/

After cake, Josiah opened his presents:

I think Abbey wanted to hand one to Josiah, but Ben had assumed this responsibility and wasn't prepared to hand it over. :).

They all played for fifteen minutes or so, then decided they should have a big snow fight.  Eben's family left, so Abbey was the only small one hanging around inside and she couldn't understand why we all thought she should be excluded from the fun.  She hates to be left out!

The parents all stood in the window and watched as they had a thirty minute long snowball fight.  It was pretty entertaining!!!

Overall, Josiah loved his day and we felt like his 8 years were sufficiently celebrated!

Bowdoin College Art Museum and Arctic Museum

The fabulous and amaxing mother of six, Eve, organized a homeschooling field trip to the Bowdoin museums.  I was very pleased with how interested the kids were in what they were seeing!

Abbey was starting to get a little wound up towards the end, though!

There was a pretty vigorous snowball fight as we walked to the Arctic Museum!

Learning Inuit words:

At first Abbey was afraid of all of the stuffed artic animals, but she overcame her fear and came in.
